    Description

Quick note:  I've been getting some questions along the lines of "will this fit my piano".  I certainly don't mind questions and will be glad to help with some additional information.  I've added a photo showing and hopefully visually defining some of the measurements and angles involved.  Bore distance and rake angle are probably the most important as they determine the strike point of the hammer.  Please read on and feel free to ask any questions you have, providing the bore distance and rake angle with any inquiries when possible.
Assortment of 9 upright/vertical piano hammers, 9 hammer shanks included (7/32" diameter, 4 3/4" long).  These will fit many pianos but not all - so please measure to be sure and feel free to ask questions as needed.  Hanging a full set of hammers is not impossible but is one of the more challenging aspects to piano servicing and rebuilding while replacing a few broken hammers is certainly within most folks ability.  Dimensions and critical measurements are as follows:
    Hammer width - bass: 9.5mm (0.375"); treble - 10.3mm (0.408").
Bore distance (tip of felt to center of hole for shank) - bass: 55mm (just over 2 1/8"); treble: 63.5mm (just under 2 1/2")
Bore angle* - bass: 15 degrees throughout bass section; tenor (middle section): varies from 12 degrees in the low part of the tenor section gradually to 2 degrees in the upper part of the tenor section; treble - 0 degrees throughout.
    Rake angle* - 4 degrees
Assortment includes 3 hammers from the bass section (bored 15 degrees bass), 3 from the tenor section (varying from 12 degrees to 2 degrees) and 3 from the treble section (bored 0 degrees).
*Note about bore and rake angle.  These hammers have a shank hole bored to about 0.234" which is somewhat oversize for the 7/32" diameter shanks (0.218").  This is intentional and done to provide "wiggle room" when gluing the hammers to the shanks and allows you to "dial in" the angle best suited for your application.
If these dimensions are off from what you need and you want the challenge of boring your own hammers... you can use some of the included shanks to plug the existing holes and then redrill…. if you're a beginner this is not for the faint of heart but at some point in the past all of us who do this started with our first set of hammers.  You will definitely need a drill press and a fixture that allows you to precisely set the required dimensions but this is do-able.  I'm willing to send pictures of the fixtures we use if that helps.  If you mess up one or two (or a few...) I have broken sets and spares on hand and don't mind sending a few (free of charge, including domestic shipping) if you've bought the set from me.
